Welcome to My New Caricatures Blog

My First Blog

Today is the first of this semester in school. I’m trying to navigate my way in this new world of tech and people with different ideas and thought processes. It’s a little strange writing about myself and what I do. I’ve been doing caricatures since 1989, but enough for now as time goes on I will talk more about my passion and where it has taken me.

Art after the Army

Welcome to my blog. My name is Gabe Chavez. I’m a retired vet of 17 years in the Army. Throughout my time in the Army I used to day dream about what I would do once I retired. Honestly, there wasn’t a whole lot of time to day dream, and most of the time I spent in the military was regimented time and most of it was just taking care of others. I did have a good time though.

Just a month ago in Austin, Drawing for a bday party.

Jan 31, 2018, was my very last day in the Army. I was Honorably med-boarded. which means I was no longer fiscally able to to my job in the military. I spent my last days in the military going to medical appointments and trying to make myself better. Honestly I was really terrified, because I had no idea what the future had in store for me as a civilian. I searched for jobs that were close to what I did in the military. Had many job interviews but some how was never hired. The very first thing I did was, I went to school to study HVAC. I did some research and it looked like a good fit but in the end, after working in the business after graduation, I found myself not really liking the work. After that job, I found a job working at a food production plant as a sanitation supervisor. after working for five months I was let go for some unclear reasons. which brings me current.

Today, I’m a full time student and freelance artist. This has been my passion since I was a boy. I can remember myself as a 11 year old boy kneeling by my bedside praying to God to just let me draw for a living. I had to pray because i didn’t really get support as a young artist. My parents, aunts and uncles would always tell me about how broke I would be, and that there are no good jobs as an artist.
